Guwahati (Assam) , April 30 :The UPSC examination results, announced Friday, gave the state of Assam a strong reason to rejoice. Securing the 661st rank, Bahni Kumari Telenga became the first woman from the state, and from the tea garden workers community, to clear the civil services exam.
The daughter of former Assam Labour Minister Barki Prasad Telenga, Bahni is a B-tech graduate in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the National Institute of Technology at Durgapur. Having completed her schooling from St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, and Cotton College in Guwahati, she is one of the 25 candidates to have cracked the UPSC from the North East this year.
Bahni resigned from her job at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited in Visakhapatnam to prepare for the exam.
"I could not succeed in my two earlier attempts. I left the job and started preparing for the exam at home all by myself. Right now I am prepared to shoulder any civil service job, but I will not give up trying for IAS,” an elated Bahni told The Assam Tribune.
