Imphal (Manipur ): Good News for people of Imphal . Come October 2 , residents of this princely capital city will experience what Night Life is all about like other metropolitian cities .
For decades North Eastern states especially Manipur was deprived of any night life due to law and order problems but now the government has decided to start a Night Plaza to provide a healthy and secure night life in the city areas.
On Sunday the Urban Development and Housing Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar announced the decisioin of the government of opening of ' Night Plaza ' upholding the traditional culture of the Manipuri society and giving a boost to a healthy family life to the residents of Imphal and tourists ..
To start off, on October 2 nd next a Night Plaza along the Kangla moat ( eastern half of NH 2 from Raj Bhavan turn to PWD turn) would start functioning . It would be open from 7 pm to 10 pm on weekends and there would be no entry fees . It would also remain open for ten days at a strech during the Manipur Sangai Festival .
This is being done with a hope of encouraging the extension of business hours in the city"s core areas and improving economy in the state .the ‘Night Plaza’ stalls would be opened strictly following the guidelines set by the government enabling every sections of the society to experience the Night life with their families.
The stalls would be classified into two categories – sales & entertainment and food. The temporary/portable stall operators will be responsible for installing their own stalls and bring their own items, including providing sitting arrangements for the customers. Two stalls would be installed between two electric poles so that there will be free movement. There would be no provision for washing utensils and disposable stuff would be used .
Another good news - Talented people would be provided platforms to showcase their talent without any fees and the entire road stretch at the venue would be decorated through proper day-like illumination by the state electricty department , including decorative illumination on the inner bank of the Kangla moat. However ,the sanctity of the Kangla will always be maintained.
Food stalls would of various types – indigenous food, fast food, international stalls and local food among others. Boating on Kangla moat, live concerts and other recreational activities will be another added bonus for the visitors. An organising and management committee has already been constituted for overall supervision and coordination of the project.
State Police Department will look into the security and safety of public and deployment of NCC cadets, Scouts & Guides for coordination and guidance. The state Traffic Police Department will control and manage the traffic.
