Manipur : 48-hour general strike affects normal life;heavy security deployed in capital city

Imphal (Manipur), July 18 : Normal life was affected in Manipur today by the 48-hour statewide general strike which began at midnight last night. The strike has been called by the Manipur University Students’ Union demanding removal of Professor AP Pandey from the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Imphal (Manipur ), July 17 : Expressing deep anguish against the authorities’ indifference to the collective agitation of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA for dismissal of Manipur University VC Prof AP Pandey, Manipur University Student Union (MUSU) has called for  a  48 hour Manipur State wide general strike from July 17 midnight till July 19 midnight.

We'll resign if territorial integrity compromised: Manipur CM

New Delhi , July 16 : Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday said that his government will resign if the territorial integrity of the state is compromised to resolve the Naga issue.
Emphasising that a consensus has to be reached before taking a final decision on the Naga issue, Singh in an exclusive interview told ANI said: "If our voice is not heard, if the consent of the state assembly or of the people is not taken and changes are made, then we (government) will be nowhere. We will have to leave our posts automatically".

Manipur : 1 Assam Rifles jawan killed, 2 injured in ambush

Imphal (Manipur) , July 10 :  Manipur based  rebel outfit , Peoples  Liberation Army (PLA)     ambushed  a patrol party of the Assam Rifles and triggered an IED blast killing one jawan  and  injuring  two others  along Indo - Mynmar border on Monday.
Official sources, said  the attack was  carried out  near Kangpat village under Khamjong police station in Khamjong district at around 9:30 am on Monday. 

Tension along Indo - Manipur border after shifting border pillar 3 km into Indian territory

Moreh (Manipur ) , July 7 : Prohibitory orders were imposed in some areas of Moreh sub-division in Manipur on Saturday after unrest over the alleged shifting of a border pillar along the India-Myanmar border according to news agency PTI.
The border pillar was shifted well into the Indian territory.

5 women from Manipur arrested from Gurgaon spa for sex trade

Gurgaon, July 6 :   five women from Manipur , were  arrested along with 5  women from Thailand , one from Uttar Pradesh and four males, including two customers,  were arrested  from a Gurgaon Spa  on Thursday  for  for their involvement   in sex  trade  .
 Gurgaon Police PRO Subhash Bokan said that  the arrests were made following a raid on the direction of newly appointed Police Commissioner KK Rao.

NIA recovers Rs 40 lakh, demonetised notes in Manipur terror-financing case

New Delhi , July 3 :Over Rs 40 lakh in cash, demonetised currency notes and gold have been recovered by the NIA, following searches at the residence of a former director of an Imphal-based medical institute as part of a terror-financing probe against a banned outfit in Manipur.

Manipur promotes sericulture by launching silk reeling, spinning unit

Imphal (Manipur), July 1 : With an aim to encourage the local farmers to take up mulberry farming and silkworm rearing, Manipur Sericulture department launched a silk reeling and spinning unit in Bishnupur's Ngaikhong Khullen village, reported news agency ANI.
The  newly installed multi silk reeling cum spinning machine was set up at a cost of 5.50 lakh rupees with an aim to provide self-employment opportunities to women and to improve the overall socio-economic development of the rural populace, the agency report said.

Manipur :Two 'People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak' insurgents held

Imphal (Manipur), June 29: A team of police commandos has nabbed two foreign-based Manipuri insurgents in Moreh, located along India-Myanmar border, officials said on Friday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Thomas Thokchom, the two insurgents of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested on Thursday night.
The insurgents have been identified as Thangjam Lanngamba and Yumnam Ashok Kumar. No weapon was recovered from them.
