Justice Yaqoob Mir sworn in as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

Shillong (Meghalaya) , May 21 : Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir senior most judge of J&K High Court who was appointed as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court by President of India was today administered oath of Office as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court by Governor of Meghalaya Ganga Prasad Chaurasia at Raj Bhawan .
 
The Oath taking  ceremony was attended by Judges of Meghalaya High Court, J&K High Court, bureaucrats, relatives of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and officials of Registry.
 

Meghalaya CM Conrad vows to works without any bias

Ampati (Meghalaya) , May 19 :The National President of National People’s Party (NPP) and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday  campaigned for the by-election to Ampati constituency to drum up support for NPP candidate Clement G. Momin.
 
 
 
He instilled hope in the people that if NPP candidate is given the mandate, the party will work with renewed energy to recreate Ampati and take forward growth and development projects.
 
 
 

Meghalaya Congress to hold demonstrations against Karnataka Guv inviting BJP to form govt

Shillong (Meghalaya) , May 18 : Opposition Congress, which had won the largest number of seats in the February Assembly poll in Meghalaya, is holding demonstrations across the state today to protest the Karnataka Governor's decision of inviting the BJP to form government. The Congress had secured 20 out of the 58 seats of Meghalaya Assembly in the polls.
 
But it was the conglomerate of the National Peoples Party which had secured 19 seats formed the government with the support of other regional parties and the BJP.
 

Tit-for-Tat : After Karnataka episode, Congress now to push for government formation in Manipur, Meghalaya

Imphal (Manipur ) , May 18 : The Congress leaders in Meghalaya and Manipur said on that they will stake claim for formation of government in the two states since the party had emerged as the single largest party in the recent elections.
 
The Congress leaders said that since the BJP which had become the single largest party in Karnataka was allowed to form the government the same should not be denied to the Congress.
 

Meghalaya: 36-year-old man dies after falling into gorge from bridge

Tura (Meghalaya ) , May 16 :A man was killed after he fell into a gorge from a dilapidated timber bridge in West Garo Hills district, police said on Wednesday.
 
The man identified as 36-year-old Anand Borah fell down from the old Rogkhon bridge on the outskirts of Tura after his car got stuck in the bridge last night, they said.
 

Meghalaya : Four NSCN(K) cadres arrested

Shillong  , May 16 : Four cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland Khaplang (NSCN-K) were arrested from Meghalayas West Jaintia Hills district, police said today.
 
Forty-year-old Gaising Maringmei, a self-styled 'revenue' secretary of the NSCN-K was picked up on Sunday evening from Khliehtyrshi village in the district and later arrested, Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem told PTI.
 
 

Meghalaya : HM James launches bye -election campaign for prestigious Ampati constituency

Sangma today launched the campaign for bye-election to Ampati Constituency in South West Garo Hills and said that NPP will last full term because people of Meghalaya has given the mandate to NPP and its coalition partners and not the Congress party.  
 
 
 

Weather dept forecasts thunderstorm for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland

New Delhi , May  12 : Last week, a major thunderstorm and dust storm devastated several lives in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir, and Delhi, among others. A lot of people lost their life in the thunderstorm, 16 lives in UP. Dust storm, rains and thunder had claimed the lives of as many as 100 animals in J&K’s Rajouri district. The thunderstorm came on May 2 and more than 100 people had died in north India.
