3 killed in landslide in Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram) , May 12 : At least three people, including a minor girl, were killed when a landslide hit Mizoram's Zemabawk area, police said.
 
Aizawl District SP C Lalzahngova told PTI that three persons were confirmed dead in the incident and efforts were on to recover the bodies.
 
 
The number of casualties could rise as people are still feared trapped in the landslide, police said.(PTI)

Mizoram : Skulls & Skeletal Remains found in caves on research list

Aizawl (Mizoram), May 12 : Experts and scientists of Anthropological Survey of India, in collaboration with Mizoram chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), will study and analyse skulls and skeletal remains of humans found in various caves in Mizoram.
 
This was agreed at the joint meeting of officials of Anthropological Survey of India and Intach, Mizoram chapter, here last week, the convener of Intach's Mizoram chapter, P. Rohmingthanga, told The Telegraph.
 

Mizoram: 52 gold biscuits worth Rs 2.69 crore seized , 2 arrested

Aizawl (Mizoram), May 11 : Customs officials have seized 52 gold biscuits valued at Rs 269 lakh from Mizoram and arrested two Myanmar nationals in this connection, a senior customs official said.
 
Superintendent of the anti-smuggling unit of the Aizawl customs division, L H Haokip said, acting on a tip-off, the customs officials intercepted a car at Seling customs checkgate on Tuesday and seized the gold bars, weighing eight kilogramme, from the possession of the two persons.
 

Cops seize gold bars worth over Rs 3 crore in Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram), May 9 :The Mizoram Police has seized gold bars worth over Rs 3 crore from Champhai district and arrested one person in this connection, an official said today.
 
P C Lalduhthlanga, the public relations officer of the Mizoram Police, said gold bars weighing 9.96 kg, worth over Rs 3.18 crore, were seized from Hruaikawn hamlet of the district, near India-Myanmar border, on Monday evening.
 
 

Mizoram: Diseases kill at least 1026 pigs

Aizawl (Mizoram) , May 7 :At least 1026 pigs and piglets have died and 3639 others affected in Mizoram due to the outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Classical Swine Flu since March this year, officials said on Sunday. This is the third time Mizoram is witnessing the outbreak of PRRS. The disease had hit the State in 2013 and 2016.
 
 
 

Mizoram's first medical college to open in August

Aizawl (Mizoram) , May 6: Mizoram's first medical college is slated to open its doors in August. The Mizoram Institute of Medical College of Research is located at Falkawn and has all the necessary infrastructures as required by the Medical Council of India (MCI), L. Fimate, the Director of the college, told IANS on Saturday.
 
"The MCI has recommended the Letter of Permission for setting up the college," he said.
 

CADC future in Mizoram CM's hands, says MNF

Aizawl (Mizoram) , May 2 :The issue of who would rule the Chakma Autonomous District Council(CADC) in Mizoramis now the court of Chief MinisterLal Thanhawla, opposition Mizo National Front(MNF) said here today.
The CADC  is an autonomous council for ethnic Chakma people living in South-Western Mizorambordering Bangladesh and Myanmar It was formed under the sixth schedule of the Constitution in 1972.
 

BJP, Cong come together to rule district council in Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram ) April 29 : The BJP is all set to rule the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram with the support of six Congress members after the election threw a fractured mandate, a top state BJP leader said.
 
The CADC is an autonomous council for ethnic Chakma people living in South-Western Mizoram bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Joining of hands by traditional rivals, the BJP and the Congress, is an interesting political event.
 

Mizoram govt trying to improve connectivity issues: Governor

Aizawl (Mizoram) , April 29 : Governor Lt. Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma said the state will become a big player in the nation"s development, once connectivity issues are sorted out in a couple of years.
 
The connectivity problems in the region were the main impediments to development of the state and the government was working hard to improve it, the governor said while inaugurating a workshop here.
 
 

The world's biggest family : The man with 39 wives, 94 children and 33 grandchildren

Baktwang (Mizoram) , April 28 : Ziona Chana also has 94 children, 14-daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren. 
 
They live in a 100-room, four storey house set amidst the hills of Baktwang village in the  state of Mizoram, where the wives sleep in giant communal dormitories.
 
 Chana  says : 'Today I feel like God's special child. He's given me so many people to look after. 
 
'I consider myself a lucky man to be the husband of 39 women and head of the world's largest family.'
