Repatriation of tribals from Tripura to Mizoram uncertain

Agartala (Tripura) , July 17: Uncertainty has gripped the repatriation of 32,876 tribals from Tripura to Mizoram as the refugee leaders on Tuesday said the tribals are unwilling to return to their homes unless their old demands, including formation of the Area Development Council for the Reang tribals, are met.
However, the Tripura government officials on Tuesday said they are not aware of any fresh developments and confirmed once again that the repatriation process would start from August 16, as scheduled earlier.

Centre inks pact with Mizoram, Tripura for Bru refugee repatriation

New Delhi , July 7 :In a fresh turn of developments, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh finalised a new deal to repatriate the Bru community members from Tripura to their home state, Mizoram, in the next couple of months.
In this regard, an agreement was signed between the Centre, Mizoram government, Tripura government and the Mizoram Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF) on the deportation issue of Bru tribals in the national capital on Saturday.

Tripura: IIIT to start functioning this year

Agartala (Tripura), June 29 : The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) will start functioning from the current academic year, Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath informed the Assembly.
The IIIT will initially operate from the campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Agartala, the minister said yesterday in reply to a calling attention notice moved by Sushanta Chowdhury and Dilip Das on the progress of establishing the IIIT in the state.

Tripura :Two killed, six hurt in mob attacks

Agartala (Tripura ) , June 28 :Two persons, including a vendor from Uttar Pradesh, were lynched on Thursday and six others seriously injured in mob attacks in Tripura, police said.
"In the first case, the man from Uttar Pradesh was lynched and four others, including a policeman, were seriously injured when a group of persons mistook them to be child kidnappers," a police official said.

The father-daughter duo has been acknowledged and felicitated by several top officials in the last few days. According to a Times of India report, Swapan's daily incomes have barely touched Rs 100, and his source of income is from selling bamboo shoots and forest produce that he collected every day.

Tripura :BJP leader shot dead by unknown gunmen

Agartala (Tripura) , June 24 : A senior leader of the  BJP  was shot dead while he was returning  back home  on  Saturday midnight . 
Biswajit Pal  aged around 35 years  was returning home from work after  midnight when he was shot dead  from point  blank range  by some  unknown men at Badharghat,which is around  200 metres from his home.
Pal was shot on the chest  while he was on his way home in a scooter .

Poor Father-Daughter Duo Avert Major Train Accident, Save 2000 Lives in Tripura!

Agartala (Tripura), June 22 : Open any news website, and you will inevitably read a story about a rail accident in some corner of India. Little surprise that when a major train accident is averted, it makes the news. More so when the people averting a major rail disaster are a poverty-stricken father and his child.
On June 15, Swapan Debbarma and his daughter, Somati, who belong to the Dhanchara village in northern Tripura, averted a train accident, saving the lives of over 2,000 passengers, according to IANS.

Disproportionate Assets : DG-rank IPS officer demoted to IG in Tripura

Agartala (Tripura), June 14 :The Tripura government has demoted a senior IPS officer, who was allegedly given "illegal ad hoc" promotion despite the CBI filing a criminal case against him for "possessing" disproportionate assets, from the rank of the DGP to the IGP.
In an order, issued last week, the Tripura government said K Nagaraj, a 1983 batch Indian Police Service officer, had been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police despite the fact that criminal and disciplinary proceedings were pending against him.

BSF mulling laser walls along Indo-Bangla border in Tripura

Agartala (Tripura), June 12 : The Border Security Force in Tripura is “contemplating” installation of laser walls at the unfenced riverine patches along India-Bangladesh border to check infiltration bids, official sources said.
The security forces have so far been using sensor devices, floodlights and night-vision goggles to guard the international border; the laser walls would further help in plugging gaps in the “vulnerable” areas, a senior officer of BSF’s Tripura Frontier said.
