Moreh ( Manipur - Myanmar Border ) , May 2 :Four Rohingyas including a woman were arrested from Morehtown near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Tuesday , police said.
A team consiting of CDO Moreh, led by DSP/CDO Moreh Thomas Thokchom, under the supervision of SP/ Tengnoupal Dr. S Ibomcha Singh, conducted search operation at hotel Calbo near gate no. 2 at Moreh and arrested four illegal Rohingya immigrants. The arrested were identified as, Zobar (21 yrs) s/o Warhussain of Yakhai in Myanmar ,Rapik(19yrs) s/o Md Adsama of Yakhai in Myanmar Kamal Hussain(19 )s/o Abutaher of Yakhai in Myanmar ,Munni Bibi (19) d/o Mohammad of Yakhai in Myanmar.
One person who trafficked them to Moreh namely Takhellambam Gobin of Lilong Urup Arapti Makha Leikai , Imphal East was also arrested.
The four were arrested for entering the country illegally without any travel document, Superintenden tof Police A Ibomcha Singh said.
A case has been registered against the four arrested Rohingyas, he added.
The threat of an influx by Rohingyas is looming large on Northeast India in General and Manipur in particular. While the possible presence of terrorists among the Muslims fleeing Myanmar’s Rakhine state is alarming security agencies, it creates a bigger problem for the administration in a region where infiltration is already a sensitive issue and a cause for deadly violence in the past.
The arrests have blown the lead off fledging trade across northeast where organised syndicates of human traffickers and touts are using the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar border to ferry Rohingyas in and out of the country.
Northeastern states share more than 4,500 km of border with Bangladesh, China, Myanmar and Bhutan. ..
