Meghalaya : Raj Bhavan tree, kills three

Shillong (Meghalaya): Three people were killed and two sustained grievous injuries when a massive old tree  fell on three taxis at the AG junction near the entrance to the Raj Bhavan here on  Saturday evening. 
The two taxis, which were loaded with passengers, were crushed.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Davis Marak said, “Three persons died but the  bodies are yet to be identified and two persons sustained injuries”.
The old tree which has stood at the entrance to the Raj Bhavan for decades came crashing  down pulling with it electric posts and wires.
Police informed that one of the local taxis which was completely crushed (registration number yet to be confirmed) reportedly had two occupants while the other two vehicles with registration numbers ML 06-4171 and ML 05 P- 0643 which were also damaged reportedly had 5 occupants each.
Heavy rain has been ravaging various parts of the state for the past few days causing  massive destruction with landslides reported from several regions and all rivers in  spate, even as the met department has cautioned of inclement weather for at least the next couple of days.
