Meghalaya : ULFA cadre surrenders

Resubelpara (Meghalaya ):   Cherando  Marak , an ULFA cadre   hailing from  Boko in the North east Indian state of  Assam  surrendered  before the  Police on Monday .   He  surrendered  in presence of Addl. SP  Rituraj Ravi, DSP- HQ  Nikcheng Ch Momin and church leaders.


Cherando  joined in ULFA in 2002, when  he  met Bitu, Marthin & Areng ( 3 of whom were killed  in an encounter with  Army). Later, he met  ULFA CNC ,Paresh Baruah and Dristy Rajkhowa who took  him to Bangladesh for arms training.


 After completion of his training in Bangladesh he returned to India  and his main job  was to  transport  arms  and was considered as an asset to the banned outfit .


He   had  earlier surrendered   to Army  in 2008  . The army had  strategically taken him to Rangiya Army Camp and kept him in their campus for 4 months  before  he escaped   in November last year .


He was  again arrested by Assam Police and released  on bail.  After his  bail his former colleagues  kept on using   him for militant activities till he got in touch with some church members  who persuaded  him to give up arms and come to the mainstream .


 “I have have finally  decided to walk on a right path” said Cherando after surrendering to the Police on Monday .
