Imphal (Manipur) , Apr 13: A sacked police constable with India Reserve Battalion from Manipur turned into a vehicle-lifter within no time. How? Well, he formed a gang that carried out vehicle-theft in south and west Delhi. They used to sell the stolen vehicle in Imphal at half the price.
Till now, the gang has stolen over 50 luxury vehicles, including BMW, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Fortuner and a Skoda Yeti.
The mastermind, Mohd Fakruddin, has been arrested from Saket along with his gang-members – Sorokhaibam Chorjit Singh, Asker Ahmad and Abdul Gaffar Khan – with eight country-made pistols and 16 cartridges.
As per reports, Fakruddin was unsatisfied with the emoluments he used to get as a constable posted with India Reserve Battalion. He came to Delhi, met his brother-in-law and stole expensive motorbikes. Soon he got acquainted to Khan who introduced him to Ahmad.
An expert in disposing stolen vehicles, Ahmad has completed MBA from Arunachal University. Earlier, he owned a business which failed during recession. He was caught by the Delhi police last year, for supplying Pseudoephedrine tablets from India to China, a report said.
The gang used to steal vehicles from Delhi and then drive them all the way to Imphal where they were sold for Rs 3-5 lakh with the help of fake documents.
During the investigation, the police have recovered a few Hyundai SUVs and Toyota Fortuner. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to reach out to the owners of the vehicles
