New flower species named after former Arunachal Pradesh CM Dorjee Khandu

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), June 7: An Arunachalee scientist has dedicated a new species of flower that he discovered last year to former chief minister Dorjee Khandu, an official statement said.
 
Krishna Chowlu, a scientist with Botanical Survey of India (BSI), discovered the wild flower, which is white at the base and violet on the top, at a forest in Zemithang area of Tawang in September 2017.
 

Rare feat! Mountaineers from Arunachal Pradesh scale Mount Everest without sherpas

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), May 30 : Mountaineers Kishon Tekseng and Taka Tamut from Arunachal Pradesh have acheived the rare feat of scaling Mt Everest without any sherpas, a senior state government official said . Tekseng, from Yingkiong in Upper Siang district and Tamut, who hails from Jomlo Mongku in Siang district scaled the world’s highest peak on May 24, ten days after Muri Linggi of Roing who became the seventh Arunachalee to achieve the feat, state sports and youth affairs joint director Ramesh Lingi said.
 

Last hurdle cleared for first med college in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) , May 25 : The Centre has allowed the Arunachal Pradesh government to start the next academic session at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) at Naharlagun with an intake of 50 MBBS students, paving the way for the state's first medical college.
 
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a Letter of Permission to the state government in this regard, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said.
 
 

CM Khandu among 25 passengers on board first flight to Arunachal

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) , May 21 :Arunachal Pradesh today found a place on the aviation map of the country as the state's first commercial flight with Chief Minister Pema Khandu among 25 passengers on board, landed at Pasighat Advance Landing Ground in East Siang district.
 
The 42-seater ATR aircraft of the Alliance Airlines touched down at Pasighat airport around 2.15 pm after 1.5-hour journey from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati.
 
 

China's gold mine at Arunachal Pradesh border may become another flash point with India

New Delhi , May 21 :China has begun large-scale mining operations on its side of the border with Arunachal Pradesh where a huge trove of gold, silver and other precious minerals valued at about $60 billion has been found, a media report said .
 
The mine project is being undertaken in Lhunze county under Chinese control adjacent to the Indian border, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.
 
China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of southern Tibet.
 

Threats to Bengal Slow loris in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) , May 19: Scarcity of food and depleted natural habitat are forcing the Bengal slow lorises in East Siang district to stray into human settlement areas.
 
In past few years, at least 10 slow lorises have been captured by the locals that had strayed into human settlements in different parts of the district. The captured animals were later released in reserved forests by forest officials.

Cash Crunch: Arunachal ATMs go dry as RBI delays cash remittance

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) April 18: The cash drought in the automated teller machines (ATM) in and around the capital complex and in several other districts has left the public in a state of perpetual anguish for the last couple of weeks.
The cash crisis began about four months back; since then, it has become a regular phenomenon.
 
The authorities of the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Itanagar branch blame the Guwahati branch of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for delaying remittance of cash to the Itanagar branch.
