Manipur :Police arrest three militants

Imphal (Manipur) , June 18: Police here have arrested three militants belonging to two  banned militant  outfits in the state .
 
Acting on a specific intelligence input  an  active member  of the banned  militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) was picked  by Police  during search operation conducted at Ningthemcha Karong area in Imphal West district on Sunday, a press release by the PRO of Manipur Police said.
 

Manipur extrajudicial killings campaign calls upon Rajnath to safeguard activists

Imphal(Manipur)June 17 : Over a thousand Indians on Sunday called upon Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to end harassment and attacks on activists and human right defenders who highlighted alleged extrajudicial executions in the state, rights watchdog Amnesty International India said.
 

2 dead as heavy rain lashes Manipur

Imphal (Manipur), June 15 : Heavy  rain in the past 72  hours has created  havoc in the north-eastern states, claiming at least  four lives in Tripura and Manipur, severely affecting  train  services in Assam and leaving thousands homeless across the region.
 
In Manipur, two persons died  within the past 24 hours in the Thoubal district,  according to  a report  in  the Imphal Free Press.
 

Torrential rains trigger landslides, flash floods in Manipur, Mizoram

Imphal(Manipur) , June 12: Torrential rains in the fast few days have triggered landslides and flash floods in some parts of Mizoram and Manipur, throwing normal life out of gear, official reports said on Tuesday. 
 
The situation in Mizoram is causing concern since there were house collapses and deaths in the recent past, while in Manipur too, the low lying areas including some portions of busy roads including NH 37 have been inundated. 
 

Manipur : Terrorist Killed, Others Arrested

Imphal (Manipur ) , June 12 :  One terrorist was killed while two others were arrested following an encounter between security forces and suspected cadres of United Tribal Liberation Front (P), police said .
 
The gun fight occurred near Kuran Madrassa Ahmedabad in Jiribam district late last night, police said adding that two cadres managed to escape.
 
Security forces belonging to Assam Rifles took part in the encounter and recovered an M16 rifle and one handgun, police said.(PTI)
 

Drug smuggler arrested in Manipur

Imphal (Manipur ) , June 7 : An international drug smuggler wanted in India and abroad was arrested in Thoubal district of Manipur, police said on Thursday.
 
Superintendent of Police (Narcotics and Affairs of Border) W. Basu said that many law-enforcement agencies were after Mohammad Masle, who was arrested on May 30 at Lilong.
 
 
Basu said that six FIRs stand registered against the drug smuggler, who was operating his racket for five years.

Big boost for Manipur! India’s first sports university to be set up, President Kovind approves ordinance

New Delhi , June 2 :After the Union Cabinet on May 23 approved an ordinance to set up the country's first national sports university in Imphal, President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the ordinance on Friday.
 
 National Sports University Ordinance, 2018 will be on the lines of the National Sports University Bill, 2017, introduced in Lok Sabha last year.
 

Students vandalise sports university offices in Manipur

Imphal  (Manipur) , June 1 : A group of about 30 students said to be members of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) vandalised the offices of the Registrar and the Dean of the National Sports University here on Friday.
 
As DESAM activists entered the NSU complex, a few staff members began to troop out. Even as security personnel stood guard, the activists smashed glasses and destroyed other office property.
