Manipur staged gunfights: SC wants officers named in FIR

New Delhi , April 16 :The Supreme Court on Monday directed the CBI’s SIT to file a supplementary FIR naming the officers involved in the alleged extra-judicial killings and staged gunfights by the Army, Assam Rifles and Police in Manipur.
 
A bench of Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice U.U. Lalit asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to file the supplementary FIR in the existing FIRs which will include the name of officers or commanding officers of the units, and told the NHRC to also assist the team.
 

Magnificent Mary Kom wins CWG title

Gold Coast (Australia), April 14 : Star Indian boxer M.C. Mary Kom won gold in the women's 48 kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Saturday.
 
Mary defeated Kristina O'Hara of Northern Ireland by a unanimous 5:0 verdict to take the title.
 
She has achieved almost everything that women's boxing can offer, but five-time World Champion M.C. Mary Kom is still yearning for the greatest accolade in the world of sports -- winning gold at the Olympics.
 

Manipur : Woman, infant son killed in a tragic accident

Imphal (Manipur) Apr 13 : A truck rammed into an auto-rickshaw, carrying a man's dead body, at the Tendongyang area in Imphal on Wednesday night. The man's wife and infant son, who were also travelling with his body, died in the accident.
 
On Wednesday morning, H Rakesh (43) of Sekmai was rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital here following an illness and died at the hospital in the evening, sources said. His wife Kanao (35) then hired an auto-rickshaw to take her husband's body for performing last rites, they added.
 

Sacked Manipur Cop Turns Luxury Vehicle Lifter

Imphal (Manipur) , Apr 13: A sacked police constable with India Reserve Battalion from Manipur turned into a vehicle-lifter within no time. How? Well, he formed a gang that carried out vehicle-theft in south and west Delhi. They used to sell the stolen vehicle in Imphal at half the price.
 
Till now, the gang has stolen over 50 luxury vehicles, including BMW, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Fortuner and a Skoda Yeti.
 

CWG 2018 : Mary Kom enters women's 48kg final

 Gold Coast (Australia),  April 11: Veteran Indian star M.C. Mary Kom defeated Anusha Dilruksh of Sri Lanka to enter the final of the women's 48 kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Wednesday.
 
Mary's experience and superior technique stood her in good stead as she carved out a unanimous 5:0 verdict against the veteran Sri Lankan fighter.
 
 
The 39-year-old Anusha gave a good account of herself against the five-time world champion Indian before falling short in the end.
 

Manipur: Two human traffickers nabbed in Moreh

Imphal (Manipur), April 9 :Police said on Sunday they arrested two people on charges of trafficking a Rohingya girl in Moreh, a border town in Manipur.
 
Police officer Lepkhohao Waiphei said the two were taken into custody from their homes late on Saturday. Mohammad Salam, 25, and Mohammad Seifullah, 30, were remanded in police custody.
 
The girl told the police that she entered Manipur through the international border at Moreh .(IANS)

Manipur : CM announces cash rewards for lifters Mirabai, Sanjita

Imphal (Manipur), April 6:  Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh each for lifters Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu, who claimed gold medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
 
Biren said that India and all sections of people in Manipur are proud of these two Manipuri girls.
 
Mirabai Chanu on Thursday won the first gold for India at the Games with a power-packed performance in the women's 48 kilogram category.
 

Commonwealth Games 2018: Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu wins 2nd gold for India

Gold Coast ( Australia), Apr 06 : Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu won gold in the women's 53 kg category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Friday.
 
 
The Manipuri lifter lifted a total of 192 kg which included a CWG record of 84 kg in the snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk.
 
 
 
Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea was a distant second with 182 kg while New Zealand's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet took bronze with 181 kg.

Manipuri Lifter Chanu wins gold at Commonwealth Games

Gold Coast (Australia) , Apr 5 : Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the first gold for India at the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games with a power-packed performance in the women's 48 kilogram category here on Thursday.
 
The Manipuri powerhouse left the competition far behind by setting Games and Commonwealth records in the snatch, clean and jerk as well as the total.
 
 
She registered 86 kg in the snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 196 kg.
 

Acharya condoles demise of R K Dorendro Singh

Dimapur(Nagaland), April 03 : Governor PB Acharya has expressed grief at the demise of R K Dorendro Singh, a veteran politician and former Chief Minister of Manipur, on March 30.
 
Governor Acharya in his condolence message, described Late Singh as a personal friend and a good human being and stated that his contributions for the welfare of the people of Manipur in particular and the country in general, will be remembered forever.
