Mizoram boxer defeats World Champion

Aizawl (Mizoram) , June 10 : A 22-year-old boxer, hailing from Mizoram, was ignored during the selection for the national boxing team earlier this year. A few months    later, when he finally got a chance to play under the Indian colours, he did all the right things. The youngster created history on Saturday when he defeated the World No. 1 and Olympic Gold Medalist Hassanboy Dusmatov at the Kazakhstan President's Cup.

Mizoram to get its first cyber police station soon: DIG

Aizawl (Mizoram), June 7 :The Mizoram government will soon set up its first cyber crime police station here, a senior police official said today.
This will be done by elevating the present cyber crime cell under the CID, DIG (northern range) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said.
Bank fraud through information technology and abuse of social media have been steadily increasing in the state, he said adding that women and children had mostly become victims of the cyber crime.

Mizoram to be freed from Congress' grip this year: Ram Madhav

 Aizawl(Mizoram), June 6  :BJP general secretary Ram Madhav today said that Mizoram would be freed from the Congress' grip when the state goes to polls during the later part of this year.' 
Madhav said Manipur is the only northeastern state where BJP is yet to have its share of power.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the saffron party was preparing its rank and file in Mizoram to face the upcoming polls and a massive election campaign would be launched from August, after the monsoon gets over.

9 killed as bus falls into gorge in Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram) , June  5 : At least nine persons were killed and 21 others injured when a bus fell into a gorge near Pangzawl village in Mizoram's Lunglei district early this morning, police said.
The private bus was going from Aizawl towards Siaha town in southernmost Mizoram's Siaha district when it rolled down and fell into a gorge 500 metres below the National Highway No. 54, they said.

Mizoram swine outbreak: humans at risk of infection

Aizawl (Mizoram), May 30 : More than 2,900 pigs and piglets died in Mizoram due to an outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Classical Swine Fever (CSF) since March this year, according to a media report.
Officials of the state animal husbandry and veterinary department reportedly told the media that the PRRS outbreak originated from Zokhawthar village, Champhai district along the Mizoram-Myanmar border.

New Governors of Odisha, Mizoram appointed

New Delhi , May 25 :President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday appointed BJP leaders Ganeshi Lal and Kummanam Rajasekharan, both long associated with the RSS, as Governors of Odisha and Mizoram respectively, as per an official statement.
Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik was having additional charge of Odisha since March 21 after Governor S.C. Jamir completed his tenure.

3 killed in landslide in Mizoram

Aizawl (Mizoram) , May 12 : At least three people, including a minor girl, were killed when a landslide hit Mizoram's Zemabawk area, police said.
Aizawl District SP C Lalzahngova told PTI that three persons were confirmed dead in the incident and efforts were on to recover the bodies.
The number of casualties could rise as people are still feared trapped in the landslide, police said.(PTI)

Mizoram : Skulls & Skeletal Remains found in caves on research list

Aizawl (Mizoram), May 12 : Experts and scientists of Anthropological Survey of India, in collaboration with Mizoram chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), will study and analyse skulls and skeletal remains of humans found in various caves in Mizoram.
This was agreed at the joint meeting of officials of Anthropological Survey of India and Intach, Mizoram chapter, here last week, the convener of Intach's Mizoram chapter, P. Rohmingthanga, told The Telegraph.
