Manipur : Smuggled Gold bars worth Rs 94 lakh seized

Imphal (Manipur) : The  Assam Rifles stationed along  Imphal-Moreh section of Trans-Asia Highway seized 3.33 kg smuggled gold bars  worthRs 94 lakh seized  in  two separate incidents. 
According of official sources,  the troops posted in  Khudengthabi along NH-102 (Trans-Asia Highway no. 1) detected ten  gold biscuits weighting 1.666 kg worth around  Rs 47 lakh in the international  market as part of their routine check .
The gold biscuits were  hidden around “ankle knee brace” on both hands of the driver .
In a seperate  incident  the troopers also detected ten  more gold biscuits from another driver .
The seized gold biscuits of 1.666 Kg and worth around 47 lakhs  are believed to be coming from the same gang of smugglers.
The  gold bars  have been handed over to custom officials .
Customs official said that seizure of gold biscuit allegedly smuggled from neighbouring country Myanmar, particularly through Moreh has been a regular events in the last few months.
